Lake Champlain Paddlers Trail

June 23, 2001

Day two: Day Two: Larabee Point to Crown Point Bridge miles.

Paddlers: Bob, Bob (on Friday), Janet, Bill, Bob L on Saturday I was not able to paddle on Saturday so I did this stretch on Friday with Bob L. A great way to spend my birthday :). As normal I started early leaving Cambridge at 6:00 am. To meet with Bob Lindeman at the take out under Crown Point Bridge.

Well we got on the lake about 9 (I did not look at my watch actually). There was a fair breeze blowing from the south west that continued all day but not as strong as at the point. There is a fair amount of milfoil at the start and a couple of pilings at the beginning from days gone past. Even though it was July I started paddling with a polar fleece on as it was a bit chilly. It took me a while before I warmed up enough to take it off.

The first thing you notice on this trip is the paper mill. It is very large and impressive (I like to read books so I can't complain about a paper mill). I would like a tour of the plant as it looks interesting to me.

Past the paper mill was five mile point. Checking my GPS I told bob that it is five miles behind us to MT. Independence so we know where the five mile point comes from!

Since I did not have time to write up an account of this trip I don't remember to many details. It is not a bad stretch of lake and was quite enjoyable (I remember that much :) We ended the trip by going on the NY side and looking at the fort before we bee-lined the open crossing back to VT.
