Instruct students in various computer courses. Currently working on ways to introduce active learning into the classroom. I try to work service learning and or real world projects into my courses. Course topics include word-processing, spreadsheets, database, electronic mail, programming, History of Computers and World Wide Web Design. Software includes Microsoft Office (I wrote the book for the class), Visual Basic, Java, JavaScript, ASP, PHP, HTML, Pascal, UNIX, DOS, Windows. Students range from first year, seniors, to adults in continuing education. Duties include preparation of lectures, labs and all assignments. Class size averages 40 students.

Our main task has been to create a concentration in Computer Science Education, a minor in Computer Science and Education to benefit University of Vermont students who upon completion will be granted endorsement to teach computer science courses in the State of Vermont. Our next step is to provide the endorsement to teachers who are already working but do have the Computer Science endorsement.

Web Site, Created a Java program with ODBC to create a web site for the Cooperative Research Unit Program. Program reads data from a MySQL database (updated weekly) and creates website based on the information originally retrieved from Digital Measures software. Main purpose of site is to provide public access to scientific research of the scientist. See web site link above.

Assay Program, Worked with several chemists in redesigning a program to input data to perform regression analysis using absorbance and concentration amounts read by a machine from test tubes. A Visual Basic Program that has completely automated the calculations as the input numbers have been entered.

Menu Design Worked with a team to design and build the menu structure for an interactive television. Utilized Visual Basic as the main design aid. An interesting short term project that provided me with an insight of some of the things to come. My favorite idea was to put a hard drive in the tv and record the shows digitally.
